Cornhole Coming to the Nintendo Wii

Since the Nintendo Wii’s launch about 18 months ago, there have been a number of developers working on software titles that take advantage of the motion-based nature of the console. In just the default Wii Sports package, we’ve seen games such as bowling, tennis, boxing, and baseball make their way out of their respective arenas and into the living room. Much of this is due to the Wii’s controller (aka Wiimote) and its ability to relay information regarding velocity, orientation and force to the console itself. This allows for a realistic gauging of speed, direction, power and distance that is reflected onscreen. Sounds like a perfect setup for bringing Cornhole (aka Bags), the increasingly popular bag toss game to the Wii.

Software developer N-Space (creators of Geist) is working on Wii version of Target Toss Pro: Bags. While some gaming bloggers have been a little snide about the concept, I think that it’s a perfect title for the Wii. The natural motion of tossing a cornhole bag fits naturally with the Wiimote, allowing gamers to maintain their real throwing style in a virtual cornhole environment.

Who ever thought there would be a “virtual cornhole environment”?

The game will most likely be released via WiiWare, the upcoming online platform for downloading games to your Wii. With DLC (downloadable content) becoming a high priority for all of the next-generation gaming consoles, TTP: Bags should be able to introduce a lot of people to our beloved pastime that may never have had an opportunity to play.
