got this game for my 6 year old who is a HUGE hockey fan. It requires the Nunchuk. There are just too many directions and ways to use the controllers. It was confusing for me and my son just kept playing and losing everytime. I guess with some practice it will be cute but he is ready to trade it for a different game…

There are many cool Wii games out there with excellent controls and re-playability (ie. Mario and Sonic Olympics); this game is far from one of them.
I was excited to try this game out as the pictures reminded me of Ice Hockey for NES. It’s nothing like it, fine, but then there is nothing right about this game.
Graphics: mediocre
Audio: poor
Gameplay: poor
Controls: broke
The PC is pretty dumb, yet they know how to exploit the game. For example, all they have to do is pass and do a “super” shot, and 100% of the time the goaltender has zero chance. Sure, I could eventually find a way to counter this, but because there is absolutely no joy in this game, I’m not sticking around to find out.
Even the “mini-games” are terrible. This is what I remember: For example, playing the goaltender is very restricted as you have only three options to move, and it’s not even fun as you simply wait for the “shooter” to fire his shots in three possible places.
The most terrible thing about this game is the controls. I followed the instructions to the T, over and over, and yet, there is very little response from the characters itself: passing, stealing, speeding, shooting, goaltender control — all little or no response. It takes frustration to another level.
The only saving grace for me is that I purchased it for $[...] on sale at the Source. Still, I got ripped off. I strongly urge you to not even rent this game. I didn’t even let my kid and her friends touch it.
This game is the worst of the worst.

I’d rather dig out my old original Nintendo and play the very first Nintendo game Ice Hockey. It’s far superior to this one. It was mine and my kids first entry to the kidz sports game, I certainly hope others are better although this one is so bad I’ll likely never find out.

I’ll take it one step further than the other reviewer – I would rather go out and play hockey bare foot in the snow than try and play this lame game again! Huge frustration for both my 8 year-old hockey player son and I. Only buy this game if you feel the need for self-abuse! (In fact, a sadly learned lesson of buying video games for the Wii, is only buy them after reading lots of reviews, because many of them stink!)

This is a pretty fun game once you get the controls down. If you are looking for something similar to the EA Games series, you will be disappointed. This is a 3 on 3 hockey game with no rules (offsides, two-line pass, etc.) so if you are looking for a fun little game (includes exhibition and tournament modes), this is it.
