I’ve had a Wii for a couple of months now, and it’s always worked fine. But when I decided to play it this evening, I realized that it’s simply not working. It can’t even turn on, as if it has no power. (Yes, I do have everything plugged in and attached correctly.)
I’m wondering what problems can cause this and if there’s any way to deal with it without returning it/sending it back to Nintendo/etc.
I know some Wiis have had overheating problems, and I usually kept it connected to the internet overnight. Alternatively, I’m thinking it could be the AC adapter. I know some people have used their GameCube AC adapters, but since that requires cutting it up so it’ll fit, I don’t want to jump to it. Has anyone tried that?
I guess another thing I should mention is that we lost power briefly today during a storm. However, I have it plugged into a surge protector.
Any and all ideas will be considered. Anyone who gets it right gets 10 points.

It may just be like this because it got overheated.
Unplug your Wii and and don’t tamper with it for at least 2 hours.
Then plug it back in and see if there is any power.
If this works, keep it in well ventilated area.
If it still keeps on overheating, the problem might be your fan.
It might just be broken or something is jammed in it.
You can solve this by getting one of those colling fans for the or just use a regular desk fan to cool the Wii down.
Well a power surge isn’t 100% protected. So that may be what happened. So you can probably send it in and see if they can fix it.
Mine had done the same thing, where it just wouldn’t function.
First, be sure that you’ve checked all the cords [call up a friend or a neighbor that's got a wii and see if they'll let you borrow their cords for a couple minutes to test], and if that doesn’t work, unfortunately, it’s time for that call to Nintendo. They’re generally very helpful, actually, in accomplishing what needs to be accomplished with relatively little trouble. Chances may be that they’ll have to send you a new wii, unfortunately…so be mentally prepared if they tell you that.
Good luck!
