A wii code is 16 digits, but a friend code is 12 digits. What is each of their purpose, and where can I find them?

The wii code is your actual console code, which you use to send messages to your friends. It can be found somewhere under the Wii inbox thing and those options in the bottom left.
A friend code is different with each game. This is used to play actual games with friends. It can be found in different places, depending on which game.
a wii code is more of a email adress where you can send messages miis and.. well yeah
a freind code is as far as i know for video games, each game having its own freind code
for example, your wii has a code 81934710983710 9(not really)
video game one would be 132413241230948132
video game 2 would be 128734y61897324627
