wii ddr2 dance mat not working right?

i have the dance mat that came bundled with the game and it worked fine at home (a while ago). i brought it to another house and the pad works before the game starts…A, B, right, left…so on….but once the game starts it doesn’t recognize the arrows.
any ideas???
