I don’t play games but bought it for blu ray player exclusively. Get it home but wont play blu ray disc? Come to find out it needs firmware update. Ok. Website said I can use sd card but my player does not have sd card slot. Call Sony cs and they say my model only has usb. I can use usb or usb to usb cable and hook directly to pc. I don’t have cable or usb drive. You would think the geniuses at Sony would design a dvd player that can update via dvd/cd duh! But noooooo, I paid over $400, plus now I must spend more if I want it to work. Sony cs is a joke. Everything one will need to use this junk should come with it. If you want a excellent bly ray then check out the Panasonic DMP-BD35K 1080p Blu-ray Player or Pioneer BDP-51FD – Blu-Ray disc player – upscaling both compete head to head with ps3 for blu ray and if u need to update u can use disk. Sony has really gone down hill. It amazes me that people still go crazy for them. Just shows what good marketing can do. Oh well someone is going to get a relly good deal on the ps3. I took it back with pleasure.

Last Saturday my Playstation 3 just suddenly stopped reading disc’s. I first checked online to see if anyone had a quick fix. First thing I noticed was the sheer number of pages dedicated to PS3’s disc drive failing. I called Sony to see what help I could get from them. I was informed by Sony that they were aware of the problem and the only solution was to have the broken drive replaced for $150 plus shipping. My 18 month old PS3 was out of warranty. Sony’s position was,”Too bad, so sad”

I also own an Xbox 360 and was a victim of the “Red Ring of Death”. Microsoft admitted their machine was faulty and gave me a reconditioned unit.

So apparently Sony just does not care if people ever buy their products again. My house is filled with Sony products. I will never buy another. I have always lived by the axiom,”When in doubt-buy Sony. It’s often not the best, but it’s always decent quality and reliable”. Not anymore.

I plan on just junking the PS3 and buying a sub $150 blu-ray player. Obviously, not a Sony.

I have to say its something of a relief, after buying PS3 (the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle) and checking out the games GTA4 and Fallout 3 on top of a ton of rentals I grew completely bored of the thing and sold it on Ebay for a good chunk of change.

The games looked and played great, I think PS3 is a fine system its just none of these games are worth playing after a few hours. It gets old really quick and I find myself wanting to play something extremely retro like Mortal Kombat II or a side scroller. In a way I am glad, I have just dropped an expensive hobby and replaced it with bicycling and photography. Do yourself a favor and don’t bother buying a gaming system, go to a friends house and play theirs. You won’t want one that bad after a few turns if you have any sense. Most of these games are just FPShooters where you are just aiming the center of the screen on a graphic and hitting a button. Its really mindless, the flashiest graphics in the world can’t change this fact. I’d rather go back to PS2 honestly, MGS3 was probably the last truly great video game.

    no PS2 backward compatibility

Sony is pulling a fast one. I want to buy a PS3, but my only options are on eBay w/o Sony’s warranty. If you read the Sony forums many people are having issues with the Blu-Ray Drive breaking. Sony charges $160 to fix if its not in warranty or the oringal owner.

I want the freedom to buy cheap older PS2 games w/o having 2 consoles.

Wi-Fi is great, this would be perfect if it only had backward compatibility.

Stop buying this rip off and send Sony a message.
