Ps3 Cables Hooked Up Properly But Still Not Working?

I am trying to hook my PS3 up to a regular tv through the A/V cables instead of HDMI cable. We have the cable that we need but when we plug it in all we get is a humming noise. No video no audio. Why is this?

hook up all the original cords that came with the PS3 and do this:
You can reset the settings. Turn the power off to your PS3, then once the red ‘off’ light is on, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds. This will reset the AV settings.
This will reset the output settings to the original
Have fun on your PS3 XD

Did you have it hooked up with HDMI before? If so, you will need to do a video reset:
    Reset Video Output
If you are changing cables or cannot see an image on the screen, you may need to reset the video output to default settings. To reset the video output:
While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the PLAYSTATION 3 beeps twice (approximately 5 seconds), then release it.
The PLAYSTATION 3 will power up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).
If you didn’t have it hooked up with an HDMI cable before, than do you have the TV on the right video channel?
